Advanced Technology for Minimally Invasive vNOTES Procedure

In today’s busy world when most women are working and have responsibilities and commitments, work-life balance is of utmost importance. Increasing stress may predispose a woman to many gynecological concerns, but time constraints that she may have, often leads to unwanted delay in treatments and further complications. This is especially applicable for treatments requiring surgical intervention.

vNotes, an advancement of the much sought after minimally invasive surgical technique offers significant advantages, specially to women seeking quick cure. By utilizing newer techniques, vNotes enables early discharge and less post-operative pain which allows women to resume their regular activities at the earliest.

Over the past decade, there has been a revolution in availability of minimally invasive procedures in most surgical fields. Many attempts have been made to offer significant benefits to the patients utilizing the technological advancements.

What is vNOTES Procedure?

Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES), which utilises the natural orifices, such as mouth, vagina, urethra and rectum, as an access into the peritoneal cavity to perform endoscopic surgery, was first described by Kalloo et al in 2004 in a porcine model.

In 2012, Ahn et al demonstrated firstly the feasibility and safety of vNOTES in gynaecological surgeries, which represented the key milestone in the evolution of vNOTES.

In 2019, Dr Vindhya Gemaraju, a renowned gynecologist brought the same technology to our Hyderabad and was the FIRST person to start vNOTES procedures in South India. She is pioneer in this technology and has performed over 100+ procedures utilizing vNOTES. She has also inspired other Gynecologists to adopt this newer technique.

Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES) combines the benefits of laparoscopic and vaginal surgery, using new advanced access platforms. vNOTES represents the next frontier in gynaecological surgeries.

For vNOTES, after giving incision inside vagina different equipment’s are used to safely complete the required surgical procedure. Thus, the intra-peritoneal complications include bleeding, bladder/ureter injuries, bowel perforation and infection are few.

Which gynecological procedures can be performed using vNOTES?

These surgical procedures, such as oophorectomy, salpingectomy, adnexectomy, and hysterectomy can be completed with vNOTES by Dr. Vindhya who has adequate experience in performing vNOTES.

vNOTES represents one of the most significant innovations in minimally invasive surgery since its advent.

It has been shown to provide several benefits to the patients, as compared to laparoscopy or any other approach.

Vaginal Laparoscopy (vNOTES) is a method used to perform surgeries for pelvic organs like Ovaries, Cyst & Uterus through Vagina, without scars on the abdomen.

Following are some surgeries that can be performed through this method:

  • Hysterectomy- for heavy, bleeding fibroids
  • For ectopic pregnancy
  • For ovarian cyst
  • Removal of abnormal tubes
  • Removal adenexa (both tube and ovary)
